British Gas - Reasonable quote?
Engineer came yesterday and the boiler a combi worker for a while and then decided it didn't want to. I topped up the pressure and it worker again - for a while and has now concked out again. He had suggested that I get a Valient or Worcester if I replaced the boiler. BG sales person quoted £ 2440 and I could only get a potterton. that any savings were already included and could I give 10% now. This was supposed to be a 'quote' for consideration. Not a done deal. Is this price reasonable. The engineer said no adaptions were necessary it would just be a replacement. And i quote'

I've been offered nothing 'free' and I already with Homecare 200. Sales person says all of this has been included in price.... Good price or no?

If past history is anything to go by, any quote from BG will be 50% more than most installers charge.
£2,400 for just a boiler change seems huge to me.(does that include a system flush?) Get some quotes from other Corgi fitters.
Also get a price for the boiler on the internet - £600-£800????0 -
£2,400 to replace a boiler with no additional pipe-fitting required? A day's work maybe? Surely you know the answer to your question? Just in case you don't, my guestimate is you are being overcharged by about a grand. Actually not bad for BG, they must have brought their prices down...:rolleyes:Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Appreciate your responding. Thank you yes I really did need another opinion. I kinda panicked because boiler had conked out straight after BG engineer had replaced the control panel. I've reset the boiler switch each time it turns red and low and behold I managed to get a shower and heating all night. So if I only have to put up with the occassional 'red light' - please re-set me syndrome, through Christmas, I'll have the time I need to get a few quotes. Thanks once again, Cardew and 1Carminestocky.0

We were so worried this time last year. British gas gave us an estimate of £2300. We got two other estimates from large companies one similar and one for £2700. Someone suggested a local plumber who did a superb job for 1/2 the price. Be careful.0

i got my central heating fitted, 2005, £1800 all in,
Look on line for reputable local tradesmen with good reviews. With work so scarce tradesmen are offering some very good deals..
I reckon you could get the exact same job done at half the price, even taking location into consideration.
Try looking at boiler prices and asking for fit only prices. my experience is they like to make a bit when buying your boiler.0 -
Then cancel your boiler cover. you will have a manufactures guarantee, also make sure plumber is corgi, also that he registers your boiler, you will have manufactures cover for malfunction, saving you more£££££0
