Laptop Insurance?

Hi All,
About to buy a laptop for around £600. I will be using it at home, work and abroad as I occasionally travel with work.

The standard insurance is about £200-£300 which I find a huge amount, as it is nearly half the cost of the laptop.

What is the best way to cover the laptop for accidental damage and hardware damage? I do not need technical support (I have a nice friend who helps me with that!) but want to be covered if I crack the screen or if the hard drive starts playing up, or I spill a cup of tea on it.

Home and contents insurance? specific insurance? I have no idea what the best method is?? Any help would be gratefully received :beer:

I have home insurance with zurich [240 pa] includes laptop premium , they replaced l/t 2 yrs ago , no quibble , great service

Home contents insurance is the cheapest option of laptop insurance for accident damage, but most policies will demand the laptop is specifically noted on the policy and there are likely to be additional premiums for damage done to it outside the house.

Hard drive failures and the ilk would not be covered by most home insurance policies as they would be classed as wear and tear.

I don't know, but could the "abroad" and "work" cause a problem if on houshold insurance?

thanks for the replies. I think if I took it away I would make sure it was covered on the holiday insurance. It is more the accidental damage thing.

My mum bought a laptop for £1000 about 5 years ago, and paid £300 for a 5 year warranty which was a good job as it packed in after 4 years...but I feel £300 on a £600 machine is a bit silly.

I might take a look at some home insurance quotes and pay the premium. We need b+c insurance soon anyway thank you all

If you took it out on holiday insurance and had to make a claim, they would ask you if it was also covered elsewhere, you would probably have to go through the hassle of claiming half from your holiday insurance and half from your household insurance.
If you normally have it and other valuables covered under 'items away from the home' it will bring your holiday insurance cost down as they will not be taking the risk'

you have to work out the cost of either way

but I guess you would have to buy an acer laptop like I did,

also includes accidental damage cover
you can get 3 years international warranty.
