in Credit cards
I got sent a card about 4 years ago and like the fool i was then i maxed the card out in about 6 months
Ive been paying them off regularly but they keep hassleing me and have sold my debt to a collections company
Whilst talking to them i mentioned that it was their own stupid fault for sending me a card when my credit rating is so bad to which they replied that amex dont just send out cards, i replied that ive never applied for an amex card ever (and i really have never applied for one, not even unwittingly)
so they have sent me a card that i did not apply for or ask for
is there anyway due to this i can try and be a little git and get out of having to pay them back

So it's Amex's fault that you abused your credit card and your finances in general....0

Looks like we get all the scammers on this board, looking for ways to get out of their responsibilities (spending the money, then blaming others) :rolleyes:I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another, so please feel free to ignore this.0 -
thanks
if i was trying the "SCAM" them then id not have been paying for the last 4 years
its just the constant threats from them is slightly OTT
nice oponion though
ever thought that if you have nothing constructive to say then say nothing ?
i am constantly seeing on tv where people get offerd deals to pay debts off or infact there was a way around it and though id try and find out0 -

who amex or the person who made the comment?
i was in a bad time 4 years ago and where as now id break and bin a card that somone sent me back then feb 04 i used it a bit, then a bit more then it was too late, i would often try and pay back a hundred at a time but charges & interest just made me go a bit silly
you live and learn
back then i owed money to 15ish companies and now its down to 3 and that took 6 years to clear all of them
i just think it was irresponsible to send me a card with an £4,000 limit when its obvious if they whould have done a credit check that i was not suitable0 -
Were you making the minimum payments?
If you were they won't send it for collection, if not then thats how you got in 'a mess', I very much doubt amex would just issue a card randomly, you will have filled some sort of application in somewhere, perhaps not knowingly for a credit cardbut it has been done.
If you never filled in the application then you could let them take you to court and the debt would be unenforcable without a signed agreement. (I really wouldn't recommend that, as I think an agreement would be in place)
Or pay it off, you did spend the money so morally you do need to repay it, just agree a repayment plan with them. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -
i know 100% for certain that there is no way i applied for or even agreed for a card
maybe i should ask them for the agreement paperwork as id like to know why they sent it
thanks0 -
I applied for an Amex card earlier this year, and they were really thorough with asking for paperwork etc, even had to fax my AML documents again, despite having already sent it to them (they received proof of ID, not address, even though they were sent together). I was close to pulling out because there so many obstacles (esp as I have v.good credit rating) but I persevered for the Platinum Amex because of the cashback they offered.0
