Pay As You Drive car insurance

This looks interesting.

Seems to be an average of about 4p per mile off peak (i.e. not at night). This equates to £400 per year for 10,000 miles. Mileage at night is a lot more expensive. At present only seems to be for the 18-25 age group.

I'll certainly think about it for my daughter in 6 months time.

It's a shame you can't choose your off-peak time. I work nights and so it would be a killer for me, whilst I don't use my car during the day.

The 4p per mile is the starting price, we have just recently changed cars so i have enquired about pay as you drive with two different cars. the new insurance group 2 car that we have is 24p a mile and £77 a month base rate. for our old insurance group 5 car the cost per mile was 32p and a base rate of £99. The price you pay per mile depends on your car and your past insurance history!

MooseRich - what time are our late shifts?? the peak times are from 11pm-6am so if your working during these times surely it would be better??

The peak time screws me on this as well..... it means that the otherwise cheap insurance sky rockets when i consider the cost of returning home from my partner's house. So even though im a non drinker who will drive on quiet main roads to get the 5 or so miles home in the early hours of the morning, this particular journey alone will cost me more than my current insurance premium over the course of the year.
    2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.
  • Sounds fantastic, i think ill check it out. Thanks!
