Personally, I wouldn't bother - a mix of use, limescale and use of cleaners will just rub it off over time.
Companies like Blast, spray and polish offer such services (although I haven't used them) but generally I wouldn't say they would be particularly money saving. So, unless they are antique and have specific architectural interest - I would think you are better off saving up for a set of chrome taps or seeing if anyone has any on Freecycle. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I spray painted a window handle from chrome to gold. It was fine for the first while but did wear off with use.
I can't imagine spraying taps and plugholes would work tbh.Herman - MP for all!0 -
hmm, its not the cost of the taps that's no problem - its getting a plumber to fit them and tbh when i mentioned it in passing to the guys at work they all groaned and said i'd be lucky getting someone out to do the job. Replace the full suite yes but taps only nope - hence my spraypaint idea.
i guess i'll have to keep ringing round:rolleyes:0 -

I know what you mean, I have found plumbers loathe to do anything like this sort of job.
To be honest, I got a decent book out of the library, invested in a couple of standard spanners plus a tap spanner and have learned how to do these sort of jobs myself.
It helps to know this stuff in case you get a leaking tap or a tap seizes up so you can fix it yourself. I got sick of being let down by plumbers in the past. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

i have learnt to do little bits & pieces over the years - last weekend i had my kitchen floor tiled and once the tiler went I got to putting the appliances back. I plumbed the washingmachine in and on sunday it wouldn't empty - i absolutely panicked and pulled it out. To cut a long story short, it turned out i'd put the hoses on the wrong part ie, cold on hot and vice versa.
a couple of yrs ago there's no way i'd have tried sorting it but you just get a bit long in the tooth and try and figure things out yourself.
i was really worried about ruining my new floor tho!!
this weekend i'm gonna try and replace the pullswitch in the bathroom. It went a few weeks ago and we've managed by keeping the landing light on but i unscrewed the fitting and it seems very basic and the parts only £3 so i know to switch everything off at the mains and it should be fine.0 -
Good luck with the pullswitch - have tackled one myself - fiddly but doable!
It is quite satisfying sorting stuff yourself when you know normally you might have paid someone else to do it.
Shame about the washing machine but at least you sorted it in the end! Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
