my mother is in debt (not much but enough) now on one of her main credit cards she is over it limit and she never pays/pays payments late. Thus each month she its getting three charges
its her own fault but i am really  with her.
now is it possible for me to pay some of her credit card bill off using my credit card? (we still have the same surname) as its more likely to get paid then as even if i give her the money (dont want it back at a later date) she will not pay the bill with it unless i am with her!

I'm pretty sure this is possible - I have a memory that I've made payments into my husband's account (I've kept my maiden name for bank account, so the bank wouldn't have known that he was my hubby)
I know you can make Barclaycard payments by phone - think you can make them from another card. Can you get hold of one of your ma's old statements? - then you could ring them and find out (perhaps you could take a surreptitious copy or piccy with your mobile)

dont worry i can find her old statements
*posting does her mums filing lol* but i just didnt want to ring them and then to be told no. Its the only way i can get around this as if i dont start doing something about this she will not be able to recover from it

You wont get any details by phoning her credit card company because of their security systems and the data protection act.
Best Way imo,
You can do a balance transfer from your card to hers, provided your card is offering BTs at the mo, your card may or may not charge up to 2.5% for this facility. Call your card company. You should only need her card number and supplier to do the BT.

Depending on the 'order of payments', you may even have to clear your entire balance to stop the interest being charged.0 -
Hi there I dont know if you found out the answer to this but when I have paid any of my credit card billd I have always had to make payment with a debit card not a credit card, I dont know if this true of all banks and providers but has been with barclays and capitalone.:T Smilings good for you, it releases happy endorphines in your brain and makes your boobs grow bigger :T
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today; it's already tomorrow in Australia!

Somewhere I think there is some legislation about paying for credit with credit, i.e. I don't think you can pay a credit card payment with a credit card. As another poster said above, a debit card yes, but not another credit card.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -

That is the way to normally pay off your your card balance, with cash cheque or debit card, ie your real money.
You may also transfer that balance or part of it, to another card. In the past this tended to be free, but is getting much more difficult and complicated to find and keep within the terms of freebies now.
Like YB having to remind me of the pitfalls of ongoing cost, regarding my suggestion. That was because I had foolishly assumed the amount would be small and soon paid off, this might not be the case, so thanks again YB

I'm sure the answer to the original question is "no". You must pay off using a debit card, cheque or cash over counter - or using BACS if the card accepts payments in that way.
Paying off one credit card with another is affectionately known as a balance transfer. Which is not what you are talking about :P0 -

Err....Sorry to disagree, it is a method postingalwaysposting can use to help his/her mum.
It is not "affectionally" known, but officially known as a balance transfer, it is a banking term for paying / moving money from one credit card to another, so in effect is another method of "paying off " either totally or in part, a specific credit card whether it is your own or someone elses.... :rolleyes:ac's lovechild0 -
i was helping out my cousin who is in the exact same situation with her mums credit card so i had to do a little research for her last week. mother and daughter both have halifax credit cards... here's the lowdown
halifax would not allow daughter to balance transfer to mothers account as they were both halifax. halifax cannot be used to pay off halifax.
i called hsbc credit card folks and they told me that once daughter is accepted she would be able to make balance transfer to mothers halifax account.
so... looks like the answer is yes as long as you do not have the same credit card.
it's not a definitive answer but I hope it will be helpful until we get one.
