Directline advice

I always take my car & home insurance with directline. Last year when it came to renewal time for my house insurance, the quote on the website was about £50 cheaper than my renewal quote. I phoned up & argued the case & I was told there was nothing they could do, as the web gave new customers discount. I asked if I could cancel the renewal & open a new policy on the web, I was told that if I did this my insurance wouldn't be valid, as I wouldn't have paid the correct premium. After a while I phoned back & spoke to someone nicer, they did suggest to me what I'd asked the previous operator, to cancel renewal & take out a new policy on the web. I asked if this would be ok, & all she could say is there is nothing stopping me doing that & wouldn't commit to anything else. I couldn't find anything in the TC's against this, so that is what I did.
My renewal quote has come through again, but I am worried about doing this again, just incase I am not covered. ???
Any help & advice of what to do would be greatly appriciated.

They are talking cobblers saying that your cover won't be valid.
If they quote you a price, and accept your premium, online then you have a contract with them. End of.
But the smarter insurers (Churchill do this I think) will NOT quote you online or on the phone if you are an existing customer so you can't wangle this one.
We've been quoted £30 cheaper by Churchill than the esure renewal for my wife's car this time - I'm about to brave phoning esure asking them to match because I really don't like Churchill!0
