EuropAssist £59 breakdown takes 10 days to be valid in Europe

Hi,
just to save anyone else hassle. If you are taking your car to Europe, the EuropAssist £59 breakdown cover is great annual deal - BUT take it out at least ten days before you are due to travel. The first 10 days of the policy does not cover you for Europe, only for the UK, so if you leave it till the last minute, you'll have to look elsewhere for breakdown cover in Europe (it cost me £22 for 7 days breakdown cover in Europe and it took some shopping around to get it at that price - rats!)

But if you have enough time this is a fantastic company - I cannot praise them enough!
My Alhambra broke down in France at 4:30pm on day one of a two day journey down to the South of France this summer and was unrepairable.
We ended up being taken by taxi to Lyon airport that evening to pick up a Kangoo, which stayed with us for th whole of our holiday, and we were then re-booked onto a ferry (we were due to travel on the Shuttle but couldn't without the car) and picked up another car at Dover, which we dropped at an Avis depot near home the following day.
My Alhambra was repatriated and repaired in the UK. All of the above was covered under our £59 annual policy (which incidently gives full UK cover including homestart) and there was no financial outlay by us whatsoever. The staff were couteous and always contacted me when they said they would, and called the day after we got home to check that everything was OK.
Sorry to hijack the thread but just wanted to stress how worthwhile this policy is :T0
