Ipod vs Washing Machine

Perhaps the subject heading gives it away but I'm a bit daft...
Did a load of laundry today (darks if you must know) which included my gym clothes. The load of laundry also included my 4 month old... 6 GB ipod mini. Luckily it didn't go through the dryer but did go through a full 38 minute cycle spin, rinse and whatever else the bloomin machine does.
Anyway, needles to say I'm a bit  but, it was my fault I guess for not paying enough attention.
Anyway, there doesn't seem to be any sign of life from my ipod. The warranty of course doesn't cover spin cycles. So I don’t really know what I should do?
I figure let it dry for a few days before trying it… but really don’t have the dosh to buy a new one. Any suggestions besides checking my pockets before doing a load in the future?

I remember a feature on the gadget show testing how electronics dealt with water
I think anything exposed to any kind of chemical has had it.
From what I can remember:
Open it up as much as possible to let water evaporate - e.g. loosening the screws and opening up the back etc. (wouldn't think you could open an ipod)
If it's been exposed to any kind of chemical like detergent, soap etc it might even be good to rinse it under water - strange as it might seem.
Don't dry to fast - Under a lightbulb a foot away under a directed lamp is about as much heat as should be allowed
They got a surprising number of things to work again on the show
but -
Detergen + Ipod = Don't like your chances0 -
Oh and what they said was absolutely essential - Remove the battery QUICKLY0
-
No chance it came from somewhere with an extended warranty that covers accidental damage like argos is there? I've done this a couple of times with watches, but worse than that, my MIL once did it to a cat that had fallen asleep inside the machine! :eek:0

Nahhh, I have checked the extended warranty which came from the creditcard I purchased it on. All they do is extend the warranty by time and not by breadth so stupid accidents such as a bright coloured still aren't covered. I do have home insurance which covers electronics that I am going to look in to.
As for trying to air the Ipod doesn't look like anyway way to open it (and thus pull out the battery). So, here's hoping that Ecover detergent doesn't have too many chemicals!
I'll post back to the board to let you know what happens!0 -
if all else fails just download the entire back catalogue of Wet Wet Wet onto it..
oh hang on.... you just have done0 -
The main board will corrode and basically !!!!!! it up..Also the ipod has an hard-drive which obviously doesn't like a lot of excessive movement so it could be the hard-drive will be cream crackered even if you manage to get it working.
I'd try to contact someone who repairs water damaged mobile phones, they will have the necessary equipment to clean the boards (ultrasonic bath) and possibly resurect it.
There are many sites out there which show you how to dismantle the ipods...some even have videos to show you how to do it...just do a google search on "how to dismantle a iPod" for more details
and hers one I found earlier...actually just now, but Blue Peter sprang to mind

Don't give up!!! I use the dryers at the lauderette, and someone there did the exact same thing. Apparently Apple get so many ipod's back that they nearly always just swap them under warranty. She just took hers back and said it didn't work, they couldn't make it work, so swapped it.
I know it's a bit naughty, but if it is still under warranty at all, take it back, don't lie, but just be sparing with the truth!!!!0 -
Like sra said open it up and let dry but first of all rinse with clean luke
warm water to get rid of any impurities then open up for drying.
Hi im on the gadget show.. lets blow my phone up with dynamite (not a good idea)0 -
