Hiya, we are trying to make savings in our monthly outgoings, and it occured to me that with our current home entertainment package is costing us over £80.00p/m.
breakdown - bt option1 - £45.00p/m
sky package (basic family pack) - £19.50p/m
tesco b/b - 17.99p/m
total - £82.19
after a little reseach on here and on the ntl website, it seems i could save nearly £40.00 by switching to there service.
my first question is this, after reading back on some of the previous threads, are ntl any good?
2nd - will there be a connection fee as there website does not make it very clear as to this point
3rd - is the b/band any good, as there seems to be some negative points regarding this service posted on here
all ideas/help greatly recived!!
thanks, Bruce2110

BT Option 1 is £11pm - how do you get to £45pm?
Sky is much better than NTL for TV IMO - I left NTL for TV 3 years ago as services offered by NTL were poorer.
NTL broadband - I'm on the 10mb package and I've been very happy with it.0 -

Bruce---you can cancel your sky subscription and save that money. You still receive your sky channels. We cancelled ours 4 months ago after reading this advice and believe me we do get our sky still. You must tell them that you're leaving or moving in with mum or whatever.

bruce2110,
I notice that it's not on the NTL site anymore but why don't you ask them for the 3 for £30 deal that they did last year. TV,BB and phone. As a new customer they might offer it to get you hooked up. If not then the basic TV package is £5.50 when taken with a phone line of £10.50. Add this to £17.99 for 1mb BB and it is still only £33.99/month. Although a spot of haggling could yield further discounts. I wonder if you contact them with about a week left in the month, will they be hungry for last minute sign ups to get a month's quota?...and then the window licker said to me...0 -
NTL is made up of dozens of companies the old Cabletel bought, they now own every cable company in the UK,and so like Morrisons /Safeway the quality of service will depend on where you live as old habits die hard. Luckily I have been with Cabletel who by the way bought NTL (and liked the name so much....) since they started in the mid 90's when BT needed a kick in its pants and have had no trouble whatsoever .bruce2110 wrote:Hiya, we are trying to make savings in our monthly ou

There will be no connection fee, unless they are doing really well on targets. There are usually offers around like all three sevices for,,,, was £30,now£33? for 12 months, at the end of 12 months you can argue. Their packages are bolt on so you can tailor price to needs, and change plans immediately by a phone call to cs. They used to be cheaper than Sky cos they got a discount from Sky which they passed on, that was until Sky realised they were competition.
If you do decide to go with them you can get cashbacks from points sites such as rpoints, greasy palm etc by visiting the NTL site via the points site.
As an example my son got NTl broadband only,Full installation free, last September, on a 12 month contract at £9.99 a month, normally £17.99. By going thru rpoints website to NTL site and signing up on this deal, he got £15 from rpoints and £10 from NTL for doing the thing online. So that was £25 discount on less than £120 for unlimited download BB for a year. ,and he can ditch them after the 12 months is up, or negotiate with the threat of leaving.

You will probably find they will give you some deal if you say you are cancelling, so give that a try.
What about your phone - did you check that out?0 -
my wife will ring tommorow, and threaten to cancel unless they sort out why we are paying this ammount, we think that when we changed over to these new bt options, there could have been some arreas on the account and thats why they took extra payments but was nearly a year and a half ago!
will let you know what they say tommorrow...
