Laptop dead??

Options
Aparently our laptop switched off whilst being used earlier in the week and today is completely dead. It will not switch on at all.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do??

Sounds like it could not be charging properly, try to start it without the battery in but connected to power supply and swtiched on

if there are an lights on at all, try holding the on/off button down for 10 seconds - it may just have gone into a hung suspend state. Failing that, follow the advice above..

Failing that reseat the RAM and hard disk, usually under flaps on the bottom of the laptop.

If the laptop is only a couple of years old, check the manufacturers website, as batteries and power supplies are quite often recalled due to overheating problems
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • Same happened to me ...now my battery does not work at all. The only way to get it to work again was to change the power supply and then keep that plugged in all the time. Total pain.
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

Thanks - tried to restart without battery but again nothing. There are no lights etc at all so it can't be in a suspended state.

I am hoping that it is the power lead which is faulty, I will try my other one when I get it back on Tuesday.

If you have tried all the above and your other cable does not work, could you post the make and model....it could be specific to the model, for example Compaq Presario 1200's have a common fault with the BIOS chip....
