Any comment from BarclaysManager r.e. this and other posts on the subject of their Visa Debit card. I feel a corrigendum is due as his/her knowledge is not "up to scratch" and a technically person at BMS could given advice, to be posted to sort this out.

I only say it as there are so many threads on the same subject riddled with errors buy BarlcaysManager. I am not getting at BarclaysMnager I just want people to know what the real situation is, if you worked for Merchant Services then I would would have a go.

    Cheers

I put my hands up if I'm wrong. It's not my expertise, and I can only comment on what I know about - i.e. the back end that staff see at Barclays still refers to it as an Electron, and the Debit Card Services department still identifies it as an Electron card when reporting stats.

If I'm wrong otherwise, my apologies. :)

Sorry, I wrote that last night after coming home from the pub. I hope I have not offended you.

The main issue with these 'basic' account issued with debit card, is that if the account is well used, you can start to have problems with 'uncleareds', by the time you have paid a cheque in, got some petrol from an unattended pump (SACAT), bought some shopping and got some cash out, the uncleared amounts on the account add up, often blocking the card for several days while it all sorts its self out.

    Let alone the Direct Debits!
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

Not at all - as I say, I only know it from the Barclays side, I have no idea from the Visa side - so it's good to know. :)

Well my card arrived today. I was so excited thinking I had finally got a Visa Debit card. To my horror it was a plain cash card. Now I feel like a kid lol!

Called up Barclays and have made an appointment to go in and see someone in branch to sort it out!

    Gutted!

There are two options on the application form did you tick the correct box?
  • I didnt fill out a paer application form. The bloke in the branch inputted all my details. Said he ordered a Visa Debit. Will see what happens when I pop back in on Friday. Hopefully it was just an honest mistake.

Depends who you see in branch - the reason we always used to hold those forms was so that you didn't take up so much of a seller's time for what is, essentially, a no profit product.

But, it's the seller's choice if they do that, really.

Barclays cash account now gives full access on on-line banking ( well it does with me)

    Hi there
Could someone give me a definative list of services that this account offers, because lookinsg at the post above online banking is one of them.

Can you withdraw money from any Link ATM or are you restricted to using the Post Office and the banks own ATS (link the Lloyds cash account)

    Cheers
