Is there an advantage in going to the branch rather than phoning?

If I remember correctly, you have to wait for the password/code to come through the mail.
Once you’re logged in with the given code, you can change that to the password of your choice.
But in my case, this was seven years ago, so, things might have changed.0 -
There are two seperate codes for Abbey, passcode and registration number these get sent out seperate to one another they can take up to 10 days to arrive.0

Not really, I'd almost guarantee that as soon as you got to the reception desk they'd point you in the direction of the in-branch telephone, in that oh-so-helpful way that only Abbey know. In my long and painful experience with Abbey, they have always pointed customers to the phone, especially when it comes to things like ordering online banking codes.
As sutton and bengal said you will get a passcode and reg #, both of which come through the post separately and both of which will take 7-10 dyas to arrive.0 -
As wheelel says, branch are likely to direct you to the phones. If you are going to be near a branch during business hours, then this can at least save the cost of a call.0

I like Abbey's online banking, you do need to wait for the passcodes but it's so easy to use and quicker than queueing in a branch only to be told 'reception could do that for you' !0
