OK, I’ll keep this brief.

  • Why don't you just look at the current price and judge whether you think it's a good price compared to others.

This isn't ground breaking, everyone knows half price is just probably the price a single store charged for a period of time whilst the other were probably less.

Yep, a was price can be charged for 28 consecutive days in the last 6 months at a disclosed number of related stores.

Other silly retail stuff includes, it's quite legal to call something "NEW!" for as long as you like!

    Thanks for your reply.
I have always understood that when shops promote products at half price they have to back that up by showing that the full price was on sale at some point prior to that date. So in this case Somerfield at some point would have to have the product priced at £27.78. I compare all my food products by the kg, which gives a good comparison to what is good value or not. I have never seen Sirloin Steak priced at this level in any shop. That's why I am wondering how the pricing of products work.

I don't buy that;). I think you're suggesting they made the original price up.

Why waste time wondering how the price is made, You either buy something or don't buy it.

Because Tim, at the very least, even if they're not doing anything wrong by the letter of the law, it's still worth knowing if it's misleading, and whether it's actually no better price than its competitors.

That is no longer the case. A previous period only needs to be reasonable length of time.

that is why I have a nice big red warning in my signature!

As for this particular price, It is merely a bad bargain. I wouldnt pay that much for sirloin unless the cow has been eating gold nuggets....
  • Thanks Baddie That seems to answer to my question. The only reason I posted this is because I genuinely didn't know the answer. Some people on here seem to jump down your throat when your only looking for info.

It is exactly the same with strawberries, they always appear, in Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrison, Asda, Somerfield, etc, etc, labelled "half price" - has anyone ever seen them at full price ?
