Straw for free (well almost)

hi just thought id share this with you. well i have 6 beautiful rescue guinea pigs 
, the price of straw in the shops is ridiculous, we always go to the local farm and buy a whole bail of hay for :j£2, :jweve been doing this for months now. we didn't know the farmer, we just knocked on his door and asked. we actually went to a few farms before we found a farmer who sold the oblong bails and not the huge round ones you see in the fields.
anyway this farmer even told us that the pet shops buy it from him sent it to get packaged and sold at silly prices in the shops.
P.S. we dont live in the sticks or anything, we live in quite a busy town, farmer was 15 min's drive away in the car, but well worth it. a whole bail is lasting approximately 2 months for 6 piggys and i clean them out every two days.
well you know what they say ' shy bairns get nowt'

havent got any piggies, we love them, had loads in past, we have a rabbit, i buy huge round bales of hay,as have a horse, its great stuff, and rabbit shares it, Also, instead of paying huge amount for shavings for animal bedding, we buy a huge bale from harbos/horsey shop, cost about £7, and lasts and lasts...

Your title says straw, whereas it is recommended that hay is used as straw can damage eyes as they can be quite sharp.
I know your post says hay - so might be worth changing the title, as it may confuse newbie guinea owners.

FWIW, good quality hay should be green in colour and not brown. Always choose the greenest bag / bale you can find0

my hay is this years, its not green. but is fresh and smells clean.THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.0

Green hay is better nutritionally than brown hay. This year may not be the best hay as the weather was quite damp (at least in the north)0

It's hard to get decent quality hay this year, although I have had two lots of good greenish hay from two different suppliers so there is some around.
"Quite damp"? Where I live we've all developed webbed feet over the summer!0
