Garage mis represented car history

I know several police officers who wouldn't buy a police car, despite it being maintained

Nor would I, with them regularly going up kerbs at 10mph, over speed humps at 40mph, and holes drilled both inside and out, and not forgetting the ragging from cold they'd get after being sat in the station for a tea break and receiving an emergency call.

I had a similar problem with another garage in Milton Keynes (The Car Shop, Wolverton) when I was badly mislead. I was told the car I purchased had only one owner. When I asked to see the Registration document I was told it was at the other branch but would come through with the tax.

It was a few days later that it arrived and I discovered it was preowned by car rental company. It didn't have a particularly high mileage (about 20,000 at 2 years old). I did decide to have a full vehicle inspection via AA (Deckra I think the company is called). This cost £100+ but was well worth it as it pinpointed any minor difficulties, highlighted some minor body repairs and reassured me that the car was basically very sound.

I did have an angry conversation with the Sales Manager, but there was nothing they were prepared to do. It was my word against the salesman.

I put it down to experience and would always now insist on seeing the documents and have a full vehicle check before purchasing.

  • A demo car is used in a controlled environment, so much less scope for abuse

Unless it's a free 48 hour test drive of the Laguna...
  • Hire cars, demo cars, company cars whatever - they can all get driven hard!

I find it strange that Europcar use their name on the V5. Unlike most rental comoanies who use a different name.

National Car Rental use Provincial Securities LTD at their Leicester address, so you'd never kniw it was a rental car.

If you took your friend with you why didn't they ask to see the V5, if you were unsure?

You can't really ask for your money back based on the grounds of it being a Rental, rather than Demo.

    this is true

i was thinking more about the 20 min test drive jobbies
