Flash causing Internet Explorer to stop responding

Hi,
I'm using IE7 & Vista Home Premium. My Flash Player appears to crash a few sites causing IE to stop responding, most notably eBay. I've tried uninstalling Flash using the Adobe removal tool then re-installing, and using version 9 with no improvement. However this problem renders eBay (and some others) un-usable. The really frustrating thing is that I can use eBay perfectly well with Flash disabled, but this means that other sites (which never cause any problems) don't display properly. Is there any way to automatically disable Flash for the problem sites but not all sites? Or does anyone know of a solution?
I have downloaded Firefox which works perfectly, but I'd quite like to get IE working.
Thanks

  • I had this problem, so changed to Firefox. Much better, but also installed Flashblock (Firefox add-on) which you can customise to allow certain sites to display flash items.

Does flash 10 work any better for you?

No, Flash 10 is, if anything, worse!

Is it possible to get something like Flashblock for IE-it sounds perfect. I don't need it with Firefox since this works perfectly on all sites anyway (which makes the problem with Flash and IE even more frustrating!).

    Thanks for the replies

Everything else up to date, windows wise, service pack etc?

Must be something causing the problems. Mine works fine at home and work and I've got the flakier debugging versions installed as well.

Which removal tool did you use? Did you also uninstall properly from add/remove programs first before using the tool?

  • Everythings up to date. I uninstalled first off using the Adobe uninstaller which I downloaded, then re-installed etc, which didn't help. So I then went into 'windows/system32/macromed' and right-clicked both the uninstallers there and ran as administrator, re-booted, ran CCleaner, re-booted, ran the downloaded uninstaller for good measure, re-booted, then downloaded Flash 10 from FileHippo and saved to 'Downloads' which I right-clicked and installed as administrator.
