What is standard to secure rental with LA?

They are asking for £500 deposit upfront to secure is that normal?

With the company I work for its £300. If the rental figure was quite high, we would probaly take £500 or more though.
Just make sure you get a breakdown of what it will go towards, fee`s etc.0 -
Here in Edinburgh most LA ask for atleast 1 months rent, sometimes a little more depending on the size, location etc.0

I am about to rent. I had to pay a non-refundable £80 with my application when I'd chosen a property. I then have to pay £800 as the deposit (to be kept by agent) as well as the first month's rent of £695 on signing the tenancy agreement.

It was a £250 'goodwill' deposit for me then this amount is taken off of the deposit which is usually a month & a half.The only thing worse than smug married couple; lots of smug married couples.0
