DVD drive missing????

I'm hoping this is just a glitch, but I've put a CD in my DVD drive on my laptop but nothing is happening. In "my computer" the DVD drive is not showing. The CD is not playing, neither is a DVD. Usually, when I put a disc in, it starts automatically, or I can start it from "my computer". But neither of these is happening. Any ideas?

    Goto Start / Run and type regedit then browse to this key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\!!4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    Double click on Lower Filters then remove everything in in, double click on Upper Filters then remove everything in here too then exit and restart.

    You may want to make a backup of the registry before you start this if you've not done this before.

    No, probably not. It seems to be one of those problems that "just happens" with Windows. Microsoft have pretty much the same advice as geewhizz gave so they know the problem exists but apparently can't be bothered to fix it...

    If you do have the "upper and lower filters" problem, just rebooting won't fix it.
