Wireless connection help please

Need somebody to save my sanity please lol!
We have a Netgear DG834G router with WPA-PSK 63-key encryption. My daughter has had a new laptop today and I cannot make the stupid thing connect to the internet (and yes, I realise it could be me being the stupid thing :rolleyes: )
I've allowed broadcast of SSID, put the laptop mac address as a trusted wireless station, rebooted the router, rebooted the laptop, correctly (checked about a dozen times now!) entered the encryption key and it still won't connect.
The only problem I can find is when I click on properties of the connection (on the new laptop) to re-enter security details the drop-down menu for security options only gives me WPA2-Personal, WPA-Personal, WPA2-Enterprise WPA-Enterprise, 802.1x and Shared... none of which are quite the same as the WPA-PSK.
Does anybody have any solutions please

Hello there,
The new laptop may have an inferior wireless card installed.
One way to check this would be to change the security type to WEP and use a simple key for example "1122334455" then try connect.
If it connects then you know it is a compatibility issue.
Please note that WEP keys are insecure, they can be cracked with in 10 minutes by anybody with in range of the router.
