Convert dollars to £ here or abroad?

i have a load of dollars left from a trip to the US - am I better converting them to £ in the US before I leave, or when I return to the UK?

Anyone recommend where to exchange them?

Well, the most efficient use for them is to convert them to goods and services you actually want while you are still in the USA.

If you want them as pounds, then look around while you are there, but I suspect that you will be offered some pretty dire exchange rates. Most places in the UK may offer even worse rates. There are just a few places (some in London) that would give you a good deal, so some research would be in order.

Perhaps you should get a new suit made while you are there. And maybe some cowboy boots? After all, it's only money.

If you know/ work with/ have a friend/ friend of a friend etc who is planning a trip to the US they may buy them from you. That way you'l probably both get a better deal than changing them back to £ using a bank or bureau de change.
It's worth asking around.
