best current account for nearly 16 year old daughter

My daughter is looking for a current account. She currently has only a building society account. Will be hoping to find part time work at 16 and she often receives cheques for birthdays and christmas from family. She usually pays them into her building society, waits for them to clear before drawing out to purchase whatever with. I think the time is right for her to have a current account with a card she can use when she goes shopping. Does anyone know who is the best provider? Is anyone offering any little incentive or anything? Her building society is the Halifax. Thanks

Halifax are a bank - they have been for over 10 years!
These banks offer debit cards to under 16s: HSBC, Natwest, Lloyds TSB
Once she is 16, more banks will offer debit cards (including Halifax).
Nationwide don't give debit cards until 18.0 -
My 11 yr old just got himself a Halifax account with an electron debit card, he is chuffed with himself.
When he turns 16 it automatically becomes one of these http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/cardcash.asp
As your daughter is already a customer, it would probably be very easy to open.

Encourage her to keep a saving account as well, the rate of interest on some of the cashcard accounts is very poor...........not that rates are good anywhere right now!0

Abbey give a debit card, and pay 4% on their under 18s current account. Beats most savings!0

If shes nearly 16 she should be able to open an ISA for future savings, or she can just get a normal savings account and fill in an R85. Get um while they're young.0

Even then they're picky with their credit checking even though Barclaycard happily gave me a credit card with more than a month's wages as a credit limit.
