Any driving test examiners / centre staff out there?

Hi all

DD1 failed her driving test today for the second time - apparently she was slightly over a white line at some traffic lights (althoguh having been there today with her since, the lines really faded and are actually not very visible) and although she checked all her mirrors, inlcuding rear view, after and emergency stop, she didn't look behind so sadly that was enough to fail. But I'm not on here to bemoan that (although this will now be £300 paid in test fees so not very money saving  )

My query is that she now cannot re-book until the end of January at our test centre (and the next two nearest are even worse) and I wondered how these dates are allocated as I cannot believe that there are that many people locally eligible to take their tests, bearing in mind about 5 go out every 40 minutes or so.

I am checking online to see if we can get an earlier date and just phoned the driving test booking line and was offered a date two weeks earlier which, despite being told all available times are online earlier was told that I 'wouldn' see that - with no other explantion - and any time that day was free! Unfortunatley due to her AS exams she is unable to accept that date.

Can anyone shed any light as to why some dates appear to be held back (if indeed they are) and when they are released?

Thanks

They are allocated on a first come first served basis. Some schools, mainly the "week course with test" will block book sessions. She would have been offered the earlier date if someone has cancelled.

What she could do is just book the first available slot now and then just keep checking on-line for an earlier date and change it to that. After doing this a few times, it's likely that she would get a date before Christmas. Cancellations are snapped up quickly, so it's a case of checking as often as she can, several times a day, to grab them as they appear.

But that's just it - the whole of the day was free. I asked what time was available and he said any time we wanted  .

Will keep checking online as suggested - thank you. I just wondered if certain dates were kept back and released en bloc
