With 18866 and similar providers slowly raising their prices and new providers appearing it can be difficult to know which to choose.
I simply use them all depending on the time of day and my call destination.
Most people I know say it sounds like a lot of hassle and I could probably do better things with my time. With a simple system in place I find it no hassle at all

Tips:
- Register with each of the cheap providers where registration is free
- If your phone has memory buttons put the prefix's into memory. One button for 18866, one for 1899, one for 18185 and add any new ones. You then only need to press one button followed by the desired number. Simply select the one that offers the best price for your chosen call destination
- Bookmark saynoto0870.com on your browser.
- Keep a notebook by the phone listing the landline numbers of 0870/0845's that you use a lot.
- Register with Onetel for their basic option (NOT line rental) and you get weekend calls for free

Thanks for the info but dialaround uses access numbers that incurr additional charges per call and Planet talk are not cheap compared to the three prefix numbers I already use.
I gave serious thought to the Orchid dialler and decided to leave it for the moment. I can make a decision on which provider to use in seconds and hit the appropiate buttons on my phone. I'm not knocking it, its just not for me at this moment.
Thanks for the adviceIWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0 -

Primus Saver from Planet Talk is completely free for 01/02 calls at the wekend and evening. How is that not cheaper than your 3 prefix numbers which all charge a connection fee of 3p or 4p?0 -

1899's 3p and 18185 & 18866's 4p connection charges makes them 3p, 4p and 4p per call more expensive at those times.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I dont understand what you mean by additional charges.
If i use the 0844 Dialaround Access Number to make an 0845 call at peak rate from my BT landline. (The min call charge of 5p applies even if they dont answer or i hit answering machine. However lets say we get an answer and we make a 3 min call.) The call would cost 6p using Dialaround, but with the cheapest 0845 supplier you recommend 18185, the call would cost 9p, plus 4p connection =13p.
BT are the cheapest supplier of 0845 calls at E&W,in case anyone wonders why i am focusing on peak rate.PF.0
