Viewing and paying Natwest mortgage online

Options
Dear All

I have a Natwest tracker mortgage. I have no penalties if I overpay.

I would like to view my mortgage statement online and make ad hoc overpayments through online banking. Is this possible - I phoned Natwest and they said that to make overpayments I had to phone them or go into a branch. I find this hard to believe. Surely if I know the account number and sort code of my mortgage (which I dont) I can just make a payment through online banking?

Anyone any experience of this with Natwest?

Thanks in advance.

I asked a similar question a while back, but only got one reply.

It might be of use to you.

Thanks, I know you can do it with their offset mortgage, not sure about my mortgage, will have to speak to them tomorrow again I think.
  • It may depend on your product. Mine comes from the dark ages and there's no online options at all (noting I don't have a Natwest current account though. Last time I checked they said I needed one to do anything else online). Everything I do I have to practically make an appointment to see someone about it. Overpayment is a definite no-no too, hence I'm changing my mortgage.

I'm moving to Nationwide though as their online stuff is far better and they're more flexible and tolerant than Natwest. I hate Natwest, but got suckered into them by the estate agent.

Although you say there are no penalties, are you sure there's no limit? Usually there's no penalty for overpaying, but there is for overpaying too much. From what I'd read Natwest's limit is just 10% of your outstanding balance per year.

For me that would suck as there's only £40k left and 10% would be £4000, then £3600, etc.

Nationwide's limit is £500 a month, so I can do a maximum of £6000 a year overpayment regardless of the balance, and I'm assured I can just go online and make a payment. When I looked into Natwest's options a while back it sounded like you had to set up an overpayment and it stays like that until you change it.
