I think post #9 and #11 are completely wrong.
I think the bank could surprise everyone with 1.5% like they did last time.
The economic figures coming out are dire and mortgage lending seems to be getting worse not better.

I agree with lisyloo - think they'll definitely do something. It won't make any difference though - I'm getting more and more concerned about where we're heading. It is looking much worse than a recession to me.

I think they'll go for a 1.5% cut this time - they waited too long before their first cuts and are now trying to catch up quickly.

Some people are saying it won't have much impact, but I think for people on variable rates which could now be saving between £100 and £500 a month on their mortgage then these people might be willing to start spending in the shops again which is what is needed.
  • i dont think people have the confidence to spend. It'll need a lot of time before spending confidence is back.

  • The only (or one of) thing that will hold them not to go for something drastic is the pound getting hammered.

whatever it is, it won't be as much of a surprise as last month's 1.5%

I think it will be around the 0.75 to 1.0 % mark

Although I just heard on the news that only 10 out of 69 mortgage lenders passed on the full rate cut last time round.

Glad we're on a BofE tracker.

  • i have 1 on a svr but a great tracker on a btl with no collar so am happy for any cut... i'll stick at 0.5% this month.
