Yes, I heard that as well, and Richer Sounds selling it implies that, too. Just because it is discontinued, though, doesn't mean that no new stock will be turning up at the shops, the impression I have is that Sony still have thousands of these left to clear. Sony shops aren't actually owned or run by Sony, they are franchises, and they seem to sell Sony products at very high prices.

All electronic world TVs are graded though - This means the TV is either an end of line, surplus stock item. Fully inspected and technically perfect with 12 month warranty. The item may not be supplied in original packaging* but is otherwise in excellent condition. *Packaging will be supplied for safe transit. See the About Us and FAQ pages for more information.

If you live near one of their 4 shops I guess you could have a look first to see what condition it is in, but you do only get 12 months warranty
