Cornstarch instructions.

I have as of now quit buying all those nasty packet sauce things that I used to get and have actually got a cupboard with ingredients in that I am rediscovering.

I am making a casserole with a stock and I am not sure how to use cornstarch to thicken it. The box has a recipe on it but no instuctions for a novice like me on how to use it. :confused:

Can anyone enlighten me. I seem to have a distant memory of mixing a small amount with cold water then adding a bit of the stock to the mix and then adding this to the pot. A bit like you would custard. Does that sound about right before I ruin my tea.

    Hi :)

    It sounds exactly right yes. Start with a little cold water to get a paste, then a little more to get a syrup, then a few tablespoons of your stock before adding it to the pot.

    Thats what i would do, as well, as squeaky says, use cold water, warm or hot makes it go all funny!!!!!
