Hi, this may be a silly question but I'll ask anyway! I treated myself to a Sony camccorder at Christmas and have been playing around with it and getting to know it. After I have downloaded to my pc, is there any way I can delete what is on the tape so I can start with a 'clean sheet' if you like. I find it really annoying when recording new stuff and the old stuff keeps popping up! Its a Sony DCR HC19E but there is no mention of this in the manual. Anybody know if it's possible?

Hummm...I've usually just recorded over. I assume you could just put it on record with the lens cover on and leave it alone..not sure of any other way sorryWelcome, rogerramjet.

As above really, record over old tape or press record while the lens cap is on!0

If it were me I'd keep the tape for archive purposes.
However make sure you back up the downloaded files, harddrives do fail sometimes. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks folks, i will try the suggestions mentioned. Will now look out for cheaper tapes if I decide to archive, as I was 'encouraged' by salesman to buy some when I was buying the camcorder, and they were quite expensive.0

Try a quick search on Ebay using 'mini DV tapes'.
A very quick look came up with plenty of traders offering branded tapes (TDK, Sony, Maxell etc) at around £2 per tape. E.g. 5 x Maxell DVM 60 tapes for £9.50 including P&P. This particular trader had 100% pos feedback and a score of over 1,000.0 -
At those prices I WILL stock up! Think I paid around £14.99 for 3. grrrrrr Was checking prices here and there whenever I was out shopping and nothing as cheap as that ........ ebay here we come! Thanks again.0
