Chipped The Lenses On My New Glasses; Where Can I Get Them Repaired Cheaply?

I was trying to find a thread similar to my problem, can't find any!
I got rimless glasses from Specsavers in March. The other day I was taking the bins out and my glasses came off onto my laminate floor, and got chipped (both lenses
).
They're thin and light lenses with a scratch-resistant coating. I've just phoned Specsavers and they say, yes, their glasses do have a 1 year guarantee, but only for "accidental damage", I assumed she meant the frames.
I was told it would cost me £99 to get both lenses replaced, which I can't afford!
Do I have any other options?

Ask for a written copy of their guarantee and try to find out exactly what "accidential damage" covers.
If Specsavers guarantee doesn't cover it then do you have contents insurance with accidential cover - check that to see if your specs are covered under that. But don't forget there could be a policy excess to pay.0 -
As above,
A guarantee is just that a guarantee that the glasses are well made and suitable for purpose. So lets say the lenses go yellow after a month. They'll sort it.
Accidental damage is never covered by a guarantee. It is sometimes covered by insurance.
However. Taking the bins out is hardly an extreme sport. You didn't bungee them out of the first floor did you? Well, if your glasses had been properly "fitted" then under normal situations of wear I should say that they should stay on your face.
If you're brave, I'd ask the optician to repair at their expense as they hadn't been fitted properly.
Or if your insurance covers you with an excess, ask the optician to refund you the excess and fit the specs so they won't plop off when you stoop.0 -
Have to disagree. If you have had them since March, surely them fitting badly would have come to light before now?
I have reading glasses and I have just snapped off one of the the bits that rest on your nose, and I am told i will have to get the glasses replaced, grr so near to christmas0 -
Thank you for all your replies. I'll have to ask what the Guarantee is, she was pretty vague on the phone.
It's very true that these things always do happen before Xmas! I don't have accidental damage cover on my house insurance, I'll just have to get a new pair I think..0 -

why would they cover 'accidental damage' only??? surely she meant 'did not cover accidental damage' as you would expect a garantee to cover product faults, not damage due to factors beyond the opticians control.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
surely the meaning of non- accidental is deliberate?0

How about going for a reglaze? The insurance route seems like a non-starter with all the time it takes, excess to pay and possible losing your NCD if you have any.
My firm does reglazes from only £19.95. More information here if you want it.0
