Bad experience with US Rent A Car

I hire cars about 6 times a year in N America. This time, I decided to go with usrentacar as their rates seemed good and good feedback.

I had 2 rentals for convertibles, each for about 5 days. The first one, I collected from Budget at Miami. usrentacar stated 4 seater, how many bags it would hold, etc. Although it says they cannot guarantee the model (Mustang was listed) it did have it would be a minimum 4 seater, etc.

So we get handed a Beetle, which we could not even get soft luggage into the trunk. That's all they had (airport location). The luggage barely fitted in the backseat. Budget have this car as a 2 seater as they don't deem the space in the back enough to call it a 4 seater.

So for 5/6 days it was a total pain especially as we switched hotels a bit. usrentacar didn't want to know really. Told me to try and take back. But I had moved out of Miami by then.

Then came the 2nd rental. I had my voucher, and went to the pickup place (Downtown Miami). They told me usrentacar had cancelled my rental. It took 3 hours with me sat in the car dealership next door to Budget using their internet to contact usrentacar, missed checkout at the hotel, and 3 hours delay on the 2 day trip to Key West. It was also my 30th :( They didn't once say sorry. Instead made me feel like I was being a pain and should just wait to see if it gets sorted out. I then had to injure gay jibes about the Queen from the Budget guys (although obviously this isn't usrentacars fault) but had they sorted it out I wouldn't be getting abuse for being English.

When I returned the car to the airport, I was told it wasn't on their system and they kept me back 45mins, before they accepted to take it from me.

Definately back to Airline Network.

I've found Alamo to have the best convertibles at Miami, and I have searched, Chrysler Sebring seems to be the biggest, but only comfortable for 3 adults.

I have had the Sebring about 4 times, and it's boot space/convertible setup is naff but yes, considerably better than the Beetle. The Beetle is totally different and they should be aware you could get given it. The mustang is by far the best. I know lots of people have said us rent a car is good, but they really wasted so many hours of my holiday, and no apologies. I just wanted people to see how things are handled when they go wrong. I have had a prang before and been charged by Dollar for petrol when included, having booked through AN, and both times, sorted within a few weeks, very little effort on my behalf when I got home.

As to US Rentacar, I haven't used them yet but have booked with them for a premium car in June from San Francisco. Keeping my fingers crossed that no probs.

Airline network have been spot on everytime for me though. I'd normally prefer them but this time US rentacar were better because I need a one-way rental.

    Hello

I have booked 6 rentals with usrentacar and have had no problems at all.

When booking a car rental it is the BOOKER who selects the car rental company (Dollar, Alamo etc) and car class (convertible etc) that they want usrentacar to supply a voucher for.

The BOOKER can see on the Dollar, Alamo etc website what vehicles types are normally provided but it is clearly stated that they may be substituted with other vehicles of the same size.
The Dollar, Alamo etc website also states how many passengers and how many suitcases that the vehicle will hold.

If the substituted vehicle will not hold the number of suitcases as listed in that vehicle class then the BOOKER is entitled to ask the car rental company to provide a vehicle that will hold the listed number.

But if the BOOKER has chosen the wrong vehicle size then it is his own fault.

Usrentacar will have provided a prepaid rental voucher for the vehicle type chosen by the BOOKER. How can you blame them for the problems ?

The original poster would have had the same problem if he had obtained his voucher from Airline Network or Carhire3000 etc for a vehicle from the same car rental company, he would still have been offered the same Beetle car as a convertible as that is what the rental company provides in that class at that pickup office.

budget at miami are very poor, we went with them in Sept and they said they didnt have our car ready, it was true there wasnt anything in the lot at all, however when they eventually gave us our car which was supposed to be a Full size with a free upgrade to premium they gave us a Sebring which is in fact an intermediate. Phoned Budget customer service to be told this and to take it back to a Budget location there I was told by the manager that it wasnt a intermediate but he wouldnt confirm it was a full size and couldnt change it as they had no cars.

We had went with fifteen02.com, cant fault them for their service, they got us a refund of the difference in size and extra compensation, got back over £100.

learnings never to use Budget again but more than happy to stick with fifteen02

    She, not he.

I picked a car that was a saloon, I got an economy sized car. usrentacar should state that you could get such a smaller car. They had a Sebring convertible available which would've been the same size as what I ordered, but no, I was dumped a downgrade.

The bigger issue is with the 2nd rental. I was stuck for 3 hours on my own, in an office where barely anyone spoke English, and I do not speak Spanish. The pre-paid voucher was cancelled by usrentacar. How is that Budgets fault?

Sounds like Eslick got good service from fifteen02 but usrentacar have not apologised for cancelling my reservation.
