Proof of sale

I need to get hold of a "proof of sale" of my last property (sold in 2006). I don't have any such document. I want to avoid going to the solicitor who dealt with it because he is likely to charge me for it (or is he?) so is there any free way I can go about getting the proof that I sold my house?

Why do you need it?

You would have had a proof of sale, because the solicitor would have provided you with his invoice handling the sale.
However, given the time elapsed, you may well have lost it.
The solicitor should be able to provide you with a copy, or other suitable proof, but may well charge you for this as you say.
Can't you just pass this charge, if any, onto whoever wants the proof of purchase?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Land registry would show the date of the last sale and I think the name of new owners. Cost is £3, downloadable in minutes.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thanks, that is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for, however, it has been sold again since we sold it, so doesn't apply to us, unfortunately. Is there anything similar equivalent?0 -
It is hard for people to be of more help without understanding why on earth somebody:
a] needs proof
b] didn't keep any paperwork
An explanation would enable the right answer to be found.0 -
a) I need proof because I need to show that I no longer own the property to get a refund on something connected to the property.
b) I lost a lot of my documentation last year when my house flooded.0 -

Or have you re-purchased the property again and so is again in your name? The LR file will show the date you purchased it.
(Doesn't the LR file show previous owners & transaction dates too, like the old deeds did?)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Land Registry entries do not now show names of previous owners - that was the case many years ago when previous entries were crossed through and new entries typed in further down on the same sheet. That hasn't happened for years.
If the people OP is dealing with accept that he owned the proeprty at one time then surely all he needs to do is prove someone else owns it now by getting the up to date Land Registry entries.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
I need to show that I sold the property in 2005. It last changed hands in 2007.
Thanks for the helpful responses everyone. I guess I will have to just contact my solicitor. It's not bound to be too expensive anyway.0 -
