Home Insurance

I was made bankrupt at the beginning of October this year.
Just trying to renew our buildings and contents insurance but when applying with ASDA home insurace my wife was specificly asked if either of us had been declared bankrupt. When she told them that i was bankrupt they said they couldn't offer us cover.
What's that all about and will we have the same response from all insurance companies?
I don't want to lie as experience tells me that insurance companies don't need an excuse for not paying out on claims.

Royal Sun More Than cover me & i've been BR since march last year, had a claim as well while BR & nothing questioned..it is a frequent option though most insurers seem to add...they seem to think us bankrupts are an untrustworthy bunch for some reasonWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

Not all but some, certainly, and most companies' policies seem to be in flux regarding bankrupt customers. I'm fairly certain we've got ours with Direct Line - as pre-existing or returning customers - and the only post-BR difference was that we had to pay a lump sum for the whole year's cover, not 12 monthly installments.0

My contents insurance is with the Co-op - I paid it in one lump sum, and there seems to be no problem.Get free advice before embarking on bankruptcy: CCCS 0800 138 1111 National Debtline 0808 808 4000

Advice: Do not use Privilege who are underwritten by UK Insurance Ltd as they will not honour a genuine claim unless you have absolute proof of ownership. My house was ransacked and my paperwork destroyed so all my receipts were gone. The claims manager said no receipts or proof no payout. Despite the fact that I had been living in my home for 16 years they would not acknowledge that I owned a stick of furniture or possessions. Not even a token payout! The case is currently with the Financial Ombudsman but they are so snowed under with claims that it has taken nearly 3 years with no end in site.
I am considering buying shares in UK Insurance so I can write directly to the CEO of the Company to demand action but due to financial restraints cannot yet afford to buy enough shares to do so. I am at my wits end and resolving to accept defeat. The upshot of this is take photos of all your possessions with their associated receipts and store them on a cloud or remote server so you have total access even in the case of a complete loss, for example a fire. This way the Insurance Company will be forced to comply with their contract to pay out. DON'T GET CAUGHT OUT LIKE ME!0 -

Top tip: you can write to any CEO you want, even without owning shares.0 -

Other top tip for the OP : don't resurrect a thread that was last updated over ten years ago just to have a rant that isn't even directly related to the original topic0
