Best time to book long haul?

We've just returned from our first holiday abroad and indeed our first flight. We went to Montego Bay in Jamaica and it was so fantastic that we're desparately trying to find a way to skrimp and save so we can return next November.

I have found it very tricky to get prices for November on all bar the bigger mainstream agents sites, and these are substantially more for the same flight and hotel that we stayed at this year.

So does anyone have advice on when is the best time to start seriously looking for deals and booking up for next November? Basically I took the first price when we booked the first one but now being a little more savvy, not to mention a little more skint, I'd like to get the best deal possible.

At the mo the travel agents etc are mainly concentrating on the summer 20009, and not al the companies will of got there winter brochers out. I worked on the basis of in winter period now, they push summer brocheres, end of winter (feb etc onwards) winter comes in again.

But thou it is always worth shopping around now. x

Me agin, just had another thought, when you shop around, Thomas Cook will match the price from another travel agent, I usually internt 1st then I've got something to go on, then go from there. make sure there Abta bonded and theres another one. Avoid the Travel Agents offer of insurance unless its free!! x
