MSG - Monsodium Glutamate

Anyone know where I can get a hold of this (well my Aunt can get a hold of it). Just had her on the phone asking if I saw any in ASDA tonight.
I didn't notice it but wasn't looking out for it - anyone shed any light??

your best bet to buy MSG is in chinese supermarkets. There's plenty of it there. However, a word of warning; although it is a flavour enhancer, it does have lots of potential nasty effects. There's lots of stuff on the net about it...just google msg and side effects.

I agree with the word of caution. But if you defo want some then you can almost always get it in a sachet (near the other sachets of spices) in chinese and other asian supermarkets.

Yeah I saw them when I was looking for the full name of it - only knew (heard) of it as MSG before now. Think the closest chinese supermarket is Glasgow for me (around 25 miles away) so not too practical for travelling too

You think if I ask in at local chinese takeaway they will put some in a bag for her?

The supermarkets often gear their product lines to suit the neighbourhood the particular supermarket branch is in. So if there is a China Town near where your auntie is, and if there is a supermarket in it, then she could check the shelves out there. Or tell her to ask in her local Chinese takeaway, they'd probably sell it to her, or give it to her.

Yes I do! Cross posted with you...great minds think alike I believe..!
  • Just be careful when shopping for MSG that you don't end up with a Michael Schenker Group LP, it can seriously damage your hearing.
