For carrots I don't blanch them or do anything, just take them out as needed and cook them, I don't bother to defrost, just throw them in water and boil. They're fine. No good raw though... then they'd be soggy and horrible I'd imagine.

Other veg are different, some need blanching or cooking. Have a look on the Old Style board for loads of help on what to do for each.
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

Thanks oliveoyl. Will try this as carrots are often quite cheap especially at the end of the day but I have always thought I couldn't use them all up, now I will buy them.
  • Hi

Saved a mint today. My trolley was full to the brim and it cost £43.95 :beer:

thanks for that, reasonable priced christmas veg for a change :j

regarding freezing veg, I have bought ready prepared parsnips and carrot battons in end of day reductions and chucked in freezer , cooked from frozen they are fine but I accidently left a bag of battons out and they turned a funny colour while thawing almost black  so ok as others have said if cooked from frozen.

I have leeks and sprouts frozen as well without doing anything to them apart from trimming, cutting leeks into small chunks and bagging and they cook ok from frozen as well :j
