Would an unbled radiator cause low pressure?

Hi all,

My Worchester 24i combi boiler is showing 0.5 psi instead of the normal 1psi ->2 psi range.

The radiators and hot water seem to work once it gets started but in the mornings the unit will be flashing slowly (indicating a fault). If the unit is reset a few times it eventually kicks in.

I need to bleed one of the radiators in the bathroom... would this be the cause for low pressure operation? Thanks!

  • Good morning: Bleeding a radiator will reduce the pressure in the system (ideally 1 bar cold) You will need to top up the pressure normally via a filling loop...but yours is Worcester Bosch and might have a key arrangement instead. Consult the boiler manual if you have one re: fault code or find it here

I had a problem with bathroom radiator it always seems to be that radiator. I got a radiator key un-bleed it a couple of seconds it took and it now works fine

yea that was my understanding... bleeding it will reduce pressure not increase it... i got the 2nd sympton of low pressure inj the boiler... dunno how to top up pressure. Im a tenant so perhaps the landlord should do thid?

click on the link in Canucklehead's post for top up the pressure. But if the system is losing pressure then it needs to be looked at which is something for the landlord to sort out.

I couldnt see any hose or connector pipe, so contacted the agency. My model is a 24i worcester and doesnt look like the similar one shown.

Good morning: Check here to find your boiler...are you sure it is a 24i not a 24i Junior for example? Let us know how you get on.

On a worchester boiler the cold feed tap is underneath the boiler on the right hand side. You need to turn it until the needle on the pressure guage goes back into the acceptable range. After this you need to turn the tap off. The needle may drop a little but just when you shut the water off. Make sure you're happy doing this before you start as you don't want to overfill the boiler

If the boiler is dropping pressure regularly then there is more than likely a leak. I've just fixed this very same problem for my parents who had a towel radiator installed.

    Good luck

Oh yeah, forgot to say, the tap is usually black, and I think on Worchester boilers there is only one tap you can turn without tools (don't quote me on that, but from what I've seen) You should be thankful you don't have a baxi, they have 3 black taps and a connection pipe between them. The first time you top up the boiler its like flying a helicopter!!

  • Good morning: Many WB boilers have an internal filling loop which require the use of a plastic key eg. 24i Junior...see Section 13 ...so no hard and fast rule I'm afraid;)
