Thinking about Scottish Gas Homecare? Think Again

On Friday afternoon on 28 November my Central Heating broke down. As I have the Homecare agreement I phoned Scottish Gas and they said they would be out the next day between 2pm and 6pm. Next day, the engineer turns up, “fixes” the fault and leaves. Monday morning the heating breaks down again. I phone Scottish Gas and I am told the next available visit will be Wednesday afternoon. I explain that I have no heating or hot water at all, and the temperature is around –4, but this makes no difference. My point is simply this, if the company fails to fix the fault correctly in the first place then surely it’s not too much to expect the engineer to come back as soon as, to remedy the situation. Priority calls (same day) are available if there are vulnerable people in the household. Also on the Scottish Gas website is the Time Choice option. If you pay a premium of £3 a month an engineer will be round the same day. What’s missing on the website is if the engineer makes a pigs ear of your repair in the first place you’ll have to wait 3 days, 2 nights for your next visit.

You have absolutely no proof of mistakes being made

    There meeting their contractual obligations.

If you wanted the premium service, pay for it.
  • Im not looking for proof of mistakes. All I am saying is that if an engineer calls to repair a boiler and it breaks down within24 hours then its fair to assume that the repair has not been done correctly inthe first place. Same applies to car or washing machine breakdowns. I don't pay the £3 premium so I obviously cannot, and do not expect priority cover with the inital breakdown.

How do you know it's not a different fault?

I don't. Look I,m just bloody cold. Having a good moan raises the blood pressure and makes me feel a bit warmer.

You have my sympathy-I recently cancelled my Homecare contract due to issues with appointments. I've gone with a local company who offer a better service for £12 a month, as opposed to the £20 I was paying with British Gas

'Vulnerability' is a subjective social construct!
