Dubair airport - 8 hour stop-off

Hi

I am flying to South Africa via Dubai on Friday.

I will have an 8 hour stop at the Dubai Airport.

I was wondering whether it was worth my getting any Dubai currency in advance. I've never been in Dubai so not sure whether they accept other forms of currency at the airport.

Also is the airport really really expensive???

All the outlets in the airport that I have used accepted my Nationwide visa card. And changing money is easy there.

Prices were rather high, but not "really really expensive".

Depending on which airline you are travelling with you might get vouchers for a meal because of the length of your stopover. The airport (dont know about new terminal though) is very big but also very crowded. I wasnt impressed with the food on offer in the food court and there are not that many places to sit - you will see a lot of people lying everywhere.
The duty free is reasonable for alcohol but we found it quite expensive in terms of other things.
We were impressed by it the first time but less so on revisiting.
As previous poster said you can pay by card everywhere and also change money.
