NTL and O84 numbers

Hi there,

We are wondering if anyone knows what ntl's stance is on 084 type numbers. We cannot find anywhere whether this would be included within the usual 'free local evening & weekend calls'..... does anyone know?

We want to call an 0844 number (to get to simplyfone) in order to make calls internationally.

Thanks for the help

You will not find 084 numbers included in free calls as they include a revenue payment to the owner of the number (ie Simplyfone in your instance).

You need to watched where NTL may add their 6p connection fee which is a consideration with simplyfone type services where you end up paying for a call if there is no answer/engaged.

We're on ntl's Talk 24 unlimited and they DO charge for all 087 & 084 numbers.

You need to get the alternative local dialling code from the 'say no to 0870 site'

Thanks to BTs hold on 084/087 numbers you will have to pay as NTL has to pay BT.

There are so many different call costs to these numbers, I have to consult NTL price guide for the true cost.
They have just published a new one this month in pdf format,
    link

They also list non geo numbers and the cost code, 8 pages! of different ones,

As previous poster said get a geographical number from Saynoto 0870,to use, so that will be part of your free minutes. http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php

OK thanks guys.... so can you tell me what is the cheapest way to call Canada then? One of the prepaid phone cards is no good either since it uses 0870/0845 access numbers.....

On a related point, will NTL charge someone for RECEIVING a call from canada?

    Thanks

Whilst I'm not savvy on the other details, you certainly won't be charged for receiving a call.

That only happens when you have a mobile and are overseas.

These type of 0844 numbers are the legitimate use of an ngn .EG (Provision of cheap dial through cheap Intl Call Service). You would not be able to find an alternative for them on the say no to 0870 site.(The provider shares a small profit with the deliverer of the call).(How would they make any money if you had the Geo Number?)

The cheapest way to call Canada LL and Mobile from a NTL line is to use https://www.call1899.com using their 0808 freephone cable access number . Calls cost 1p a minute.Connection charge 3p.1899 would also be cheaper then NTL for your peak UK 01/02 calls.

    See http://www.call1899.co.uk/mobilerates.php

You will not be charged for receiving an incoming call.Unless you agree to reverse charges of course!!!

Charging for incomming calls is due mainly to the fact that in North America, there is no such thing as a mobile numbering system. Mobile numbers have the same number prefix as that of the city you live in. eg. outer Chicago is 773

To retrieve the extra cost for the cell phone providers, mobile users are charged for incoming calls.
