After a bit of advice folks - have bought a wireless media player to stream the music on my PC to my Hi-Fi downstairs. Currently on ADSL, but too far from exchange to get above 512, will be going cable in about 7 weeks (contract with current ISP ends).
What can I do to get hooked up in the meantime? If I buy and ADSL modem/firewall/router/access point then it becomes redundant as soon as I go cable.
Should I wait?
I may be looking at a laptop later in the year and will want to use this on the network too.
What are my options and can anyone recommend a bit of kit.
Thanks.

Buy a broadband Router with WiFi such as a Netgear WIRELESS BROADBAND ROUTER - WGT624. You could get this going with current setup with a bit of playing just now, however will be more suited to when you get cable.
You can add a laptop too it easily if/when you get one0 -
Thanks. My current modem is only a USB one - how much difference would that make?0
