My new Dell dimension 5150 will be delivered on Tuesday. I am a bit concerned about setting it up. Will I be confused about the different sockets at the back of computer and which do they go e.g mouse socket and keyboard socket. My current one is colour coded and it is impossible to make mistakes. Also does dell computer come with a manual. I hope I do not regret buying from Dell, it's such a nighmate ringing these people. Thanks.

all the help + manuals for dell are on the Pc
normally all the Dell mouse sockets and everything are colour coded so the green plug goes into a same coloured socket on the back....as it did on your old Pc, there is normally an intallation guide in the boxEx forum ambassador

It is really simple to set them up. I have done so, and believe me if I can anyone can.
I insisted on doing my new one myself with my OH's supervision. The computer came with a sheet that showed you step by step what to do.0 -
Knowledge is power!
Have a read of this pdf for your 5150 and you will be ready for it's arrival.
I would right click the link below and 'save link as' to your hard drive.
Click here for Dell setup pdf (needs Acrobat Reader)0 -
Marlyee... dont' panic....I'm sure you'll love your new DELL !
The mouse & keyboard will most likely be USB ones so all you need do is plug them into any spare USB socket at the front or back of the PC - even simpler than colour coding!0 -
Thanks to all of you for your help, it's very much appreciated. I have another query, please. Will I be able to install my current lexmark printer Z32 on the new one. I have still got the CD, but it mentions only window 95/98/ME, I am wondering whether it will be compatible with XP SP2? If I need to get another one, is it better to get all in one. Will only use it for photo copying mostly in black. Thanks again.0

You can connect it and then when you do it will ask you if you want the system to find the driver for you, or, it will give you the option of supplying the driver from your disk. If I were you I would try and let your pc find the driver for it rather than inserting the disk, because the pc will have the most up to date version of the driver needed for the Windows software on your new pc. But it should be ok.
You can of course go to Lexmarks website and you can download the driver for your printer that's suitable for your new version of Windows.
Below is a link to Lexmark and the appropriate driver for your Z32. You can just download the driver from here.

I bought a Dell 3100 and it was dead easy to set up, but I have one problem, I want to change the standard Dell keyboard to my Microsoft Ergonomic, It is a ps2 connection and my dell only has usb ports, i have bought an adapter from maplins but it sill says does not recognise device.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I can try ?
Thanx in advance.Regards

It maybe that you have to turn on USB keyboard support in the Bios as its a non dell keyboard or a simple task of some keyboard drivers need installing....
Im sure another Techie peep will give you more info.. Bit busy at the mo.0
