I am looking to buy my son and son in law tomtom sat navs for xmas. I am looking for basic cheap versions. Could anyone tell me what the difference is between the v3 and the v4 or recommend a cheap tomtom. As a non driver I am baffled by the jargon but would like to keep it as a surprise for them so dont want to ask them.

Having bought one of these be aware the refurbished Sat Navs are not covered by Tomtoms promise to update to the latest map. Which was claimed under the buyers guide on the site. I contacted find-satnav-deals and they emailed me to say the claim as now been removed.

There is no difference in performance between v3 and v4, the main difference is how the windscreen mount works. I would recommend getting the European version of the v3 or v4 because it comes with a larger memory and obviously European maps for only a slight price increase over the UK map model.
  • Also once you connect your TomTom to the internet they will automatically be updated through "TomTom Home" to the latest map avaiable for that device, an excellent feature.

Oh, and you can also subscribe to a map update service for around £6 a quarter, far cheaper than any of the competitors for map updates.

Have a look around online some great offers on One V3 and V4 right now, in some cases V4 is as cheap as, if not cheaper than V3.

  • Just noticed TomTom One V4 Great Britain £89.99 on ebuyer.co.uk

I think V2 is good as it has an SD slot so you don't need to worry about size of memory. You can get it from totalPDA for £57.49 (use the code find-satnav-deals for free postage)
