Student Loans

Could anyone advise? I was a mature student and graduated in 1994, shortly afterwards my eldest child was diagnosed with severe learning difficulties and I have been his full time carer ever since. I have been unable to work and my income is carers allowance. Every year I fill in the form to declare my earnings but there is little hope Iwill ever have an income enough to repay. How long will I have before the debt is written off? I have seen that it can be 25 yrs but as I am not far off retirement now I'm not sure how this works.
There is also arrears of approx £700 as they claimed one year I had not sent the form even though I had - I now send everything recorded! Many thanks for any help. Beth.

It's 25 years if you were under 40 when you took out the loan - age 60 if you were over 40. Unfortunately I don't think they write off the arrears but it would be worth checking that direct. I got stung in the same way and had to cough up; my loan's now with Honours Student Loans and they're real !!!!!!s!
