PAying 2 x building insurance can i get a refund ?

Recently we suffered some storm damage when some tiles on our roof came off.

Now i live in a house with a freehold of 4 flats and we all pay £50 pm for management fees which includes buildings insurance ... so the storm damage was covered by that buildings insurance.

But i'm also paying buildings and contents insurance for my mortgage, am i right in saying i can cancel my buildings insurance and would i be able to claim any of it back ?

Send a copy of both schedules to each insurer and tell them that you are insured twice and they should resolve it between them. Most likely the one arranged with the mortgage will refund the premiums as the other is a must have.
