Money owed by girlfriend who keeps running

My girlfriend owes me a large sum of money (to me) £1000
I basically helped her out loads of times when she needed it the most and I was always there to help her financially... I expected the money back cause she was getting a big whiplash claim. After going out with someone for 2years, I really trusted her as I was always with her etc....
she ended up cheating on me and got with a new guy. She got the money from her whiplash claim but ended up spending it and not telling me... until a friend of hers told me about it (as she also thinks its wrong).
Her mother said shes gonna have to pay it me back but... now the ex-girlfriend has pretty much disappeared to live with her new boyfriend and has tried to break contact.
Everytime I see her, she tells me that shes not giving me the money (because apparently ive !!!!!ed about her behind her back... which is a lie to stall and refuse payment).
At first, she said she can't get an overdraft cause she hasnt got a job... then when she had a job she refused to get a loan.
Im pretty sick of all this and I feel that im NEVER gonna see the money again... but someone has suggested that I take her to a small claims court as I have texts and facebook messages that have her admitting to "paying me money back" etc... does anyone know where I stand with this legally?
Thanks so much
I have the letter which says "Thanks for paying £600 for car insurance"... think I could at least get that back?
Thanks for reading and all the advice you bring to the table.

Just take her to the small claim court, and let them help sort it all out.

I would small claim it too, she's taking you for a fool, if she had any intention of paying it back you would have had it by now!!
Good luck!! xxYou may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -
Definitely take her to the small claims court, but you need to also prove you tried to get the money back first.
Write to her (recorded delivery - send it to her parents address if you don't know hers), stating that as agreed, you require her to pay back the £1000 she owes you, and you expect payment in full by <insert date approx 2 weeks time>
If she doesn't pay you in two weeks, write again (always sending recorded delivery) giving her 7 more days, after which you will be taking her to court for the money, which will mean she will also be responsible for paying court costs on top of the £1000.
If she doesn't pay in 7 days, then start small claims court proceedure immediately. The proof you have (emails etc...) and your bank statement showing the money withdrawn at that date too... all this should be enough to prove the debt.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
just be glad it wasnt for more - thanks to my ex I am paying off a bill of about £2500 from when we sold our house. his reply as to why he wont give me money towards it is 'its your fault as you left me so now you can pay'.
I would rather pay the whole debt on my own than have to speak to him or have any communication with him.
cut your losses and run!!0
