Another Service Pack 3 problem

I cannot download Service Pack 3. I have followed the trouble shooting page on Microsoft, but still no luck. I get the message: the file c:/windows\appatch\drimain.sdb is open or being used by another application. Close and retry.
I do NOT have any other programme running....any suggestions please?:o

Download service pack 3 to your desktop
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/windows-xp-service-pack-3.html
Disconnect from the internet and switch off ALL running software (Firewall, anti virus, spybots tea timer, comdos 'defense' etc)
and try to install
if THAT doesnt work then reboot and keep pressing F8
Select SAFE mode when the option comes up
Install in safe mode:idea:0
