any help please?

hi i dont no if this is posted in the right place but i am posting regarding my mum. she has struggled financely for a while. her ex husband left her with a lot of debt and 3 children to try and feed and look after. she has been struggling along three yrs now without him, but now he wants to get a contact order with the children. the problem is we have to pay £100 a month out on legal aid despite the fact that the socilators are doing nothing at all. they have told her if she doesnt pay that amount then she will have to pay the full amount which is thousands. anyway my question is that her financial state is even worse now with loans and all sorts to deal with, so does anyone know if theres ne way to get help to pay for this legal aid?? cheers for any reply.

  • I think the first thing to do is to ask the solicitors what exactly they are doing to justify the £100 per month.

The second thing I would do is ask if your mum can defer the payment. I seem to remember that when my mum got divorced via legal aid, the bill was secured on her house and although it attracted interest she could have let it run until the property was sold. However she inherited some money unexpectedly and was able to pay off the legal aid debt.

The third question to ask is is your mum getting all the benefits she's entitled to?
