The money came from family in america. They are doing quite well for themselves over there. Me and my girlfriend have just had a baby back in november so the money is to help towards buying a house.

mikeyT25 - you have my sympathy as I'm going through the same thing with Lloyds TSB over a large euro cheque that I paid in on 24th December. Despite being told by the cashier that the money would be in my a/c in a week it was sent 'for collection'. Now they tell me it can take 4 to 6 weeks. If you haven't paid the cheques in yet you should ask the payee to send you the money by electronic transfer instead.0

puliptears, no need to apologize.. Thanks anyway.
API 610.. I've already paid the cheques in. I got a letter from Lloyd's telling me that I will get the money some time in the next three to six weeks. I'm just going to have to wait now.
Next time my relatives send money though I'm going to ask them to do it via transfer or something similar. The waiting is unbearable.0 -
A fairly cheap way of transferring money is via PayPal. As long as both parties have a PayPal account the transfer is very quick, and the fees aren't too bad. I have used this method a couple of times to pay for deposits on holiday apartments we were renting. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Now then, I've got an issue whereby my partner and I put a cheque in our joint HSBC account from his mother at the beginning of Feb, to the tune of $6000 Aus. We have still yet to have the funds paid into our account, despite the money coming out of her account on the 2nd March... Surely if the money has gone out of her account and has been in HSBC's coffers for 8 working days it should be 'clear' by now? I spoke to someone at HSBC today and they couldn't explian to me why it takes so long, even when the money has been taken from the payee's account.
Previous cheques have all gone through negotiation and have taken about a week to be debited to our account. I'm guessing that they are more wary of larger sums of money and that's fine, but all I want from them is a plausable explanation as to why they're allowed to hang on to my money for so long. They're making money on money that we really need but can't get hold of and I can't see that this is fair
Any advice on this would be a great help.0
