I have just received an email from ebay which I have forwarded to them as I am 99.9% sure it is a spoof / fake one.
It looks like it is a message from another ebay member except when you open the email it says:
Dear ebay member
You have received this email because you or someone
had used your account to make fake bids at eBay. For security purposes, we are required to open an investigation into this matter. To help speed up this process, please access the following form to complete the verification of your eBay account registration informations:
The purpose of this verification is to ensure that your eBay account
has not been fraudulently used and to combat the fraud from our
community. We appreciate your support and understanding, as we work together to keep eBay a safe place to trade.
Thank you for your patience in this matter.

Please do not reply to this e-mail as this is only a notification
When I hovered the mouse over the respond now ( I didnt press anything) a little box came up with pay now - if anything came up it should have said respond now not pay now?

yep anything that says "dear ebay member" and not your member name is a spoof!Abbey Loan £6,000

...to take you to a prepared form/page/list.
Don't every use a link provided on such an unsolicited page, navigate to the site in the same way you normally get there, logon as usual and take it from there. Ebay will have messages on your "My eBay" if they want you to contact them.
There are normally things that give the game away, for example, quoting the wrong currency, poor english, bad grammer, odd phrasing.“When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around.
But when I got to be twenty one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.”

I got one supposedly from Paypal today and it was an EXCELLENT fake. However thanks to this super site, I knew not to fill in the details but instead sent it to spoof@paypal.com
Another plus for MSE. :T0 -
Absolutely agree, this looks 100% like a spoof. Forward it to eBay, delete & forget about it.
It is not surprising at all that some fraudsters feel encouraged to send such emails because some of the emails eBay send are almost beyond belief. Look at the following, this is a REAL eBay email I received - with just one mod: I removed my eBay IDs and email addresses because they are real ones.
Hello,
Thank you for writing to eBay. I appreciate the chance to assist you
with your concern about merging both of your eBay accounts.
I checked our database and can confirm both of your eBay accounts as
below:
OLD User ID/ Email Address: **my real old ebay name and email ID**
and
NEW User ID/Email Address: **my real new ebay name and email ID**
Please note that for reference purpose, I would refer your undesired
User ID as your OLD account and your desired User ID as your NEW
account.
I checked the details of both your accounts and they are all set to get
merged. However, there is a negative balance on your "OLD" account.
Before we could merge your account, it is required that all the due's or
credit on your old account gets settled. Hence, I would request you to
request the credit of £ xxx by writing this to our billing department.
You can contact the Billing team, by using our online webform found at
the link below, and selecting "ask a question":
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/account/refunds.html
Once you receive this credit and the balance on your account gets
zeroed, please get back to us so that we can initiate an account merge
for you.
As always, my goal is to help you with your questions as quickly and
accurately as possible. I appreciate your patience and understanding
regarding this matter and wish you continued success on eBay.
Kind regards,
Andrew B.

Took me about an hour to figure out that it wasn't a spoof - even though it has all sorts of "spoof indicators", such as no name, and abysmal grammar, punctuation and wording. And why on earth "Andrew B" (!!!) of eBay tells me about WIN and eNews when I want to combine two eBay IDs (which I want to do) is slightly beyond me. The "original message" that is attached to the end of the eBay email is one that I had never seen before - though it doesn't contain any false information.0 -
!!!!!!.
If you receive an email from eBay or Paypal, even it appears to be genuine, IGNORE IT. Sign into ebay/paypal (NOT VIA A LINK IN THE EMAIL) and if there are any problems you will be alerted to it. How difficult is that. Caveat Emptor."Success is not to be measured by the position someone has reached in life, but the obstacles he has overcome while trying to succeed." Booker T. Washington
